History of Gas Powered Garden Lights
According to Daniel W. Mattausch, David Melville was one of the first noted pioneers of gas lighting in the early 1800’s, and was the first person to receive a U.S. gas light patent in America. Melville was also a hardware store owner, who began pursuing cheap garden lighting experiments with gas in the basement of his home. He didn‘t live very far off from the only hotel in the city. Apparently, Melville struck success, when he was able to light up the street the hotel was on, with a large garden lights.
Today, you can easily find exquisite garden lighting similar to the likes of kerosene lanterns and tiki torches. The bottom of the light holds the gas or oil, one end of the wick soaks in the fluid, and the other end is lit with a flame. Tiki torches can be found at nearly all major home and garden stores.

Most styles are made from metal and have wind glass in them. Garden wall lighting can be installed on the wall, ceiling or free standing on a post, in the middle of a lawn.
When formulating the right garden lighting design for your gas light, keep in mind that some technicians won’t dig under your driveway to lay line. If you find one that does, it will very expensive. You’ll also have to call the city, to find out where all of your underground lines and pipes are buried. If you damage city lines during your installation, you’ll be responsible for bearing the cost to repair it.
If you’re serious about installing home garden lights, then contact a professional plumber to lay the gas line. Don’t try to do this part yourself, it is best to use a professional for skeletal work, and then you can install the apparatus yourself. It really isn’t that difficult to install and mount one. Just follow the instructions that will come with your light.
